Special Someone French Toast!

Monday is Valentine's Day!!!
Nothing like a day to celebrate early Christian martyrs!!!
 I digress...

Happy V-Day to all!
Since it falls on a Monday, you probably aren't going to make a nice breakfast for your special someone.  You'll be feeding your dog, running late to work, etc...  SO - Why don't you surprise your Valentine with a nice Sunday morning breakfast!  YES!

 What you need:

A nice, large, iced, skim latte to drink while you cook...
6 slices of white bread
2 eggs
1/3 cup skim milk
1 tbsp butter
maple syrup (grade A dark amber)
strawberries
bacon

Whisk together the eggs and milk in a shallow glass dish (I used one that is for pies).
Start your bacon (as much or little as you both want) - cook low and slow.
It's for V-Day, right?  Let's dress up those strawberries a bit.  This isn't just any old weekend breakfast - take the extra time - it shows you care  :)  Take the tops off of a few strawberries (Use a small, sharp knife and think of taking the top off a tiny pumpkin).
Cut them in half and then segment a little "V" at the top of each berry.  These strawberries look a little funny because the bottoms are so rounded.  If you can find ones that have a nice point at the end, those would look a lot better!
Melt the butter in a large frying pan - when butter is starting to form lots of tiny bubbles, soak the slices of bread in egg/milk mixture (Do one slice at a time... put first side down, flip it, soak the other side and then right into the frying pan).  Cook for about 3-4 minutes - check to see if it's nice and brown, then flip.  Cook the second side maybe 3 minutes.  Get them nice and brown/crusty - but don't burn!
Remember to put your syrup in a cup and microwave it for 10 seconds, and then another 10 - You don't want to put cold syrup on hot french toast.  Put your hearts on the plate wherever YOUR HEART desires.
Such a little mooch.  He's my special someone this morning!

  1. Thanks for posting this. I'm all set to make it for the whole family in the morning. I've even got the table set tonight with heart plates, cupid napkins and homemade valentines for the kids.
I'll let you know how it goes over!
